LVS has only been shown to work on ethernet, see towards the end of

There were some problems with ATM

but the person with the ATM setup escaped before we could convince him to 
try out all our bright ideas.

I expect you're having similar wierdnesses to the person with the ATM setup.
Someone who knows token ring is going to have to step in here or you're going
to have to run tcpdump (may be difficult if you;re having kernel panics on
the machine running tcpdump).
