>From memory, the 2.4.18-14 kernel for red hat 8.0 has
a slightly modified version of ipvs-1.0.4. So you
shuold not need to patch the kernel. 

You should use ipvsadm 1.21. Which is part of ipvs-1.0.4 - 1.0.9 
and also is availble separately on the web site.

I think this will work, but I have not tested it.

Otherwise, please look in http://www.ultramonkey.org/download/2.0.1/
for kernels for Red Hat 8.0 with ipvs. These are basically
the red hat supplied kernels, with ipvs added/updated.
