yes :-) but now you'll have some sort of unpredictable crash when/if
you run out of memory (kernels from about 2yrs ago would crash, the
current ones slow down drastically or hang till memory comes available).

are they all the same hardware/kernels? Can you put in another machine
which is different in some way? (Clearly I have no idea what's going
on, but you have to fight your way out of this somehow)
