have no idea what this means. The realservers shouldn't be arp'ing for the VIP.

How long does linux keep it's cache

about 90secs. presumably different for different kernels.

flush the arp cache on a machine with no traffic to the other end and watch with tcpdump or arp -a to see when the entry reappears.

and/or when does it decide to re-ARP?

every 90sec whether it needs to or not.
