        Did you stopped IDENT protocol in qmail on all real servers.
There was a thread with subject "poor performance using hidden arp method"
from 25-MAR where the solution was proposed (I didn't tested qmail). It
seems that -R option to tcpserver disables IDENT usage. If this is not
an IDENT or DNS problem I can't find another problem (Of course,
I don't understand well the picture, it is so broken).
