LVS vs. L4-switch

LVS balancesses loads by changing(or faking) the target address while L4-switch 
balancesses loads by changing the routing path to the target.
I'm curious about the possibility to extend (or spwan) LVS to make 
linux-L4-switch.
Or Is there a project to make L4-switch with linux already ?
