I?d rather find a software solution that leverages the existing cluster hardware (ie, the inexpensive disk drives I?ve already got connected to the real servers) instead of purchasing a network appliance, or locally attaching devices to all the nodes in the cluster. How does Ultra Monkey solve the cluster file system problem? (I guess Piranha?s solution is not out yet?) Someone on this list said CODA is not ready for prime time? Can you share your experience why? The CODA web page says, ?Perhaps Coda can become a popular, widely used and freely available distributed file system.? That sounds good. -K From: Joseph Mack <mack.joseph@xxxxxxx> To: John Cronin <jsc3@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> CC: Lorn Kay <lorn_kay@xxxxxxxxxxx>, lvs-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Files System for Clusters Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2000 11:07:04 -0400 John Cronin wrote: > >> > But NFS does not help with redundancy does it? When you failover nfs backend-servers, the clients will get stale file handles.Joe -- Joseph Mack PhD, Senior Systems Engineer, Lockheed Martin contractor to the National Environmental Supercomputer Center, mailto:mack.joseph@xxxxxxx ph# 919-541-0007, RTP, NC, USA _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.Share information about yourself, create your own public profile at http://profiles.msn.com. |
