never mind.

having a route (not neccessarily the default gw) to the outside world through 
the director works. What didn't work was putting a route to the client's network
through the real-server's dev eth0 (which shouldn't work). What I remembered
was that just putting a route via the director didn't work. I can't imagine
why I mixed this up and put in the HOWTO that you need to make the director
the default gw (and not just a route).

I'll fix the HOWTO
