connections from director

Are connections from the director supposed to not go through lvs? I just
found that my director was trying to send mail, but it's mailserver is one
of the realservers. I have a lvs entry for port 25 and that works from
machines outside the cluster, but it doesn't work from the director
itself. Is the expected behavior?
