Enquiry on Piranha

Hello all,
 I am wondering whether Piranha can provide a service that it can know a 
running application, e.g. a forever loop "hello world" program, is being 
killed or shutdown. Then it provide a failover service to another standby 
machine.
 Can Piranha really do that? Or it can only monitor the application related 
to port, e.g. apache server, ftp server, etc.
