well Julian is right. The info in the HOWTO doesn't work for earlier 2.4.x ipvs
code. I'm running 0.9.4-2.4.11

The command is

#ipvsadm --set 36000 0 0

This sets tcp timeout to 10hrs without changing tcpfin and udp timeouts.
After running it, my ssh session stayed open for 20mins without reset'ing.
