Thats why I went for RedHat 6.2 as it comes pre installed and configured
into the kernel!
As I remember the only issues I had were;

The correct version of IPVSADM was not in the /sbin directory I had to find
it elsewhere on the disc and copy it there.

You can't attach to the virtual IP address from the same subnet as the real
servers, this was fine for me as most of my clients where on a different IP
range (web servers in a DMZ)

Getting the web servers to attach back to the PDC for sam updates, while
stopping them registering themselves with the WINS server, I just unticked
Wins Servers in network config, and set a static mapping from the virtual
name to the virtual address in wins for the clients to use.

If your really new to Linux then take a look at linuxdoc.org the
DOS-Win-to-Linux-Howto chapter 2 for the impatient was quite useful to me, I
have a copy pinned to the wall by the side of my PC.

How this helps
