well, I've just finished writing the daemon in C, went upstairs to repeat the 
test, and the same thing happens - the machine freezes once I've started 
apachebench. 

Any ideas on what might be causing it? all i'm doing is a fopen(), a fscanf() 
and a fclose() once every two seconds.
