ldirectord/heartbeat

I am useing the ldirectord/hearbeat setup
how can I tell what machiens are up and how many connections they have
each? and also wich lvs server is master and which is slave?


I looked into ipvsadm and is there an option in there to check servers
if they are up or not? or does it just keep sending requests to a dead
server?
