I have an update on the situation, conjecture about
how we should/shouldn't be hosting it asside.
1. The site is currently functioning off a week old
backup. (Were there any updates last week?).
This came on line pretty quickly after the
main machine went down. And should have
been accessable once DNS propogation delays
were over come.
For reference the current, tempoary IP address for
www.linuxvirtualserver.org is 62.250.7.65.
I would like to make it clear that the web site
does run of more than one node and that the data
is backed up. However this is not an LVS cluster,
basically because the machines that it runs
of are hosted by the good graces of friends of
mine, and more than one machine in a data center
definately pushes the friendship.
2. The US being what it is I had to give written permission
for people to access the box on my behalf. After
tracking down just who these people were. The main
machine is hosted at the US arm of the company
I work for in Japan, VA Linux Systems Japan.
There have been a lot of staff changes at VA USA
(to say the least) so it took me a little while to
track down who I should get in contact with.
This has now been done. And someone should be inspecting
the box on Saturday (California Time). Hopefully
the machine will be restored at that time.
3. If the machine is not back on line by Monday (Tokyo time)
I will begin moving things over to another machine
on a more permanent basis.
