I would like to thank everyone who responded with hints and directions.  The
solution I needed was to run this command (as suggested in timeout section):

ipvsadm --set 3600 0 0

which will expire a TCP session after 1 hour (instead of the default 15
minutes).

I'm sorry you can't get it to work. We usually try to resolve
these things by e-mail. If they can't be resolved by
e-mail, then it is a new problem and we have to figure out a fix.
It would be reasonable to pay someone to help if you
don't understand LVS or don't want to bother with it yourself,
but clearly you understand what you are doing.

Have you read the section on timeouts?
