ip detection in LVS

I want to use ip address to replace hostname in ha.cf(heartbeat's 
configuration file)
        ----------------
        node    master                                         IP of node1: 
 ***.***.**.***
        node    backup                  ----------------->   IP of node2:  
***.***.***.***
        -----------------
my intention is using ip address to represent each node, don't use hostname, 
let heartbeat's
communication has no relation with hostname.

Can somebody give me some suggestion?
