I'm mostly interested in being able to force a failover. Alexandre's way
of doing this at the moment is to down an interface or HUP with a changed
priority weight. I'd like vrrpd to failover following notification from
an external event (eg smartd saying that a disk is failing, or
overtemperature...)
and I'd like the NICs to stay up if they are OK.

Is watching for external events something a dynamic shared object
is meant to handle? I looked in the docs to see if there were instructions
on how to write a DSO for keepalived but didn't find anything.

If not, what's the best way of keepalived responding to external events.
Is there going to be a hook to force an active state to backup? For the
moment is it OK if I re-HUP the demon with a priority of 0?

Thanks Joe
