Dells should work fine for Debian, etc. Just stay away from their PERC raid
controllers. If you want REALLY dense machines, you can try Rackable
Systems. You can fit 80 machines in a 42U rack and have proper heat
dispersal. Yahoo, Google, and a bunch of big companies are using them.

We've got a few of their machines here @ SideStep. They are slower than
equivalent Dells 1750s but about $400/each cheaper. The rackable opterons
are pretty fast even with an i686 kernel & binaries..
