Have you tried poking around with tcpdump to verify that SQL server is indeed just using a simple connection on port 1433. Horms,Not yet but I will (I'm fairly sure it is because we only need 1433 open on the firewall.) , Funnily enough Enterprise Manager works fine through the VIP but the web servers loose connections.
