Connection Synchronisation over serial line?

Hi all,

I use a serial line to broadcast heartbeats between my 2 directors. I 
would like
to use the connection synchronisation daemon and have it communicate 
over this
same serial line.

The daemon expects a multicast interface. Do I really need to set up PPP 
over the
serial line to achieve this or is there some simpler way?
