"No daemon is running" -- BUT IT IS!

root@lvs1:~# ipvsadm -l -n --daemon                             
master sync daemon (mcast=eth1, syncid=0)
backup sync daemon (mcast=eth1, syncid=0)
root@lvs1:~# ipvsadm --stop-daemon master
No daemon is running
root@lvs1:~# ipvsadm --stop-daemon backup
No daemon is running
root@lvs1:~# uname -a
Linux lvs1.xxxx.xxx 2.6.8.1-lvs-xeon #1 SMP Thu Sep 23 15:12:30 CDT 2004 i686 
GNU/Linux
root@lvs1:~# ipvsadm -v
ipvsadm v1.24 2003/06/07 (compiled with popt and IPVS v1.2.0)
root@lvs1:~# cat /etc/debian_version 
3.1
