A how-to question

Folks,

I'm new to LVS and searched the archives, but did see what I was looking 
for.
I'm using the LVS-DR example out of the mini-HOWTO.  One of the first 
steps is to turn off ip_forward.  Why?  It seems to work without that 
step and doing so interferes with my NAT service.
