Unfortunately the clients (and server) are not configurable due to all kinds
of diplomatic reasons you find in a hospital  *sigh*  Really the only thing
i'm allowed to change is the LVS. Their (sysadmin) response:  the system
works fine without the load balancer, so you should get it to work without
modifying anything on the server and/or clients.

Meanwhile i'm being stubborn and tried out `ipvsadm --set 86400 86400 86400`
.... maybe that has some effect, i don't know but it's worth a try.
