Real Servers not able to use cluster address.

I am using NAT networking to setup several web servers and java application 
servers.
My configuration looks similar to this:

_ public ip (147.26.200.1) eth0
|
[Ldirectord Box]
         |_ virtual ip(147.26.200.2)
         |_ private ip (192.168.201.1) eth0:1
         |
         |_____________________________________
                |                                                           
              |
         [ webserver1] - ip(192.168.201.2)                [webserver2] - 
ip(192.168.201.3)

external clients are having no problem connecting to the webservers.  
However when the webservers try to connect to the VIP (147.26.200.2) they 
just sit there trying to connect.
