We had load ip_conntrack_ftp in both situations, with modular and
static kernel. thanks for the comment anyway!

Do you also have the ip_conntrack_ftp netfilter module loaded up?

I have a feeling that in these conditions you need to not only mangle
the PORT command, but keep the conntrack too.

I could be speaking out of my rear, mind you. It wouldn't be the first time!
