You can use it for pretty much anything IP related.  We use it for SMTP, MySql, 
IIS, SpamAssassin, ClamAV, etc...  As long as your calls are pretty stateless, 
you can do a lot.  If they are statefull, you will need persistence, but that's 
better than nothing.
