ldirectord email notifications

Has anyone considered setting up ldirectord to do email notifications, especially to notify if a realserver is unreachable? I'm looking into doing this, and wouldn't mind submitting patches, but if someone else has already done it before, I'd rather use their work than actually do work myself.
