Hello,

As the router at our hosting center only updates it's arp tables every 4-hours and don't respond to gratious arp, our failover loadbalancer don't work quite as expected ;)

let us know how you solve it.

Is there a preffered method, are you using CARP or VRRP or ???.

There isn't a preference for LVS. The differences are political not technical. There are patents associated with VRRP. Alexandre, the author of VRRP, has done due diligence on the matter (as far as I can tell) and says that the patents don't affect how it's being used by the GPL people and anyhow VRRP is an IETF protocol, free to be implemented by anyone.

CARP was written by GPL oriented people who decided it would be best not to have anything remotely related to a patent.

I don't know whether one or both are right. They matter will not be settled in the time scale that you need to implement an LVS. CARP and VRRP do slightly different things, although I forget what they are.
