I'm content to load ip_vs_ftp from rc.local. However, for the sake of
posterity I'll follow up on Horms' comments... :-)

That seems likely. ipvsadm -v says...
ipvsadm v1.24 2003/06/07 (compiled with popt and IPVS v1.2.0)

Not in this case.

It worked when I loaded it manually, so I'm going to assume the problem
is probably the version of ipvsadm.
