Eric -

You may need to up the kernel parameter to allow a larger number of connections.

We had to update (on Gentoo distribution) the file:

   /etc/sysctl.conf

to contain:

   net.ipv4.netfilter.ip_conntrack_max = 327680

Before doing this we would end up with dropped connections.
