I'm not so sure I understand exactly what you mean because the director can't connect to a real server. Could you please give a more detailed description what is going on on your network?

What for? You only need this if you haven't set up any DNS entries for your real servers.

/etc/hosts but for those whose IP I dont know and can not add to the
/etc/hosts I am not able to connect to. Has anyone faced similar problem and
found a solution to it? I would be grateful if someone can suggest
something.

Hmm, how do you connect to a server if you don't know its IP?
