Hi there

I don't know what hit me, but somehow I decided to set up a Linux Cluster in my
Basement.
Some of the hardware was already there, other parts I found on eBay (actually
pretty cheap).
Now I'm almost done with setting up the racks, coming to the wiring and the
patching, I've reached the point where I could use some
help.

Here's my bunch of Questions:

I'm planning to set up the systems according to the following concept:

 to Internet to local network
       | |
       | |
       | |
|---------------| |------------------------------------------|
| Proliant 3000 |----------| Ethernet-Switch |
| (Router /DNS) | |------------------------------------------|
|---------------|
       |
|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
| Foundry Server Iron XL Loadbalancer |
|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
       | | | |
|---------------| |---------------| |---------------| |---------------|
| Proliant 3000 | | Proliant 3000 | | Proliant 3000 | | Proliant 3000 |
| (Cluster 1) | | (Cluster 2) | | (Cluster 3) | | (Cluster 4) |
|---------------| |---------------| |---------------| |---------------|
       | | | |
|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
| Brocade Silkworm 2400 FibreChannel Switch |
|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
       | | | |
|---------------| |---------------| |---------------| |---------------|
| NetApp | | NetApp | | NetApp | | NetApp |
| FC-Storage(1) | | FC-Storage(2) | | FC-Storage(4) | | FC-Storage(4) |
|---------------| |---------------| |---------------| |---------------|

1.) Does this concept make ANY sense (I know that it's a little late
to ask this question since the hardware is already there)? :-)

2.) Is it possible/useful to equip the four cluster-servers with a
second eth-nic, connected to an additional switch to create
    something like a "heartbeat network"?

3.) Is it possible/useful to use only the HA-components and to leave
the load balancing to the hardware solution (Foundry Switch)?

4.) Better Redhat 9 or Fedora?

5.) I want to run the following applications on t he cluster:
    - Apache (naturally)
    - qmail
    - OpenLDAP (for authentification/single sign-on)
    - mySQL (for a little --or not so little-- web database)
Are there any known issues or precautions I have to take?

6.) Each NetApp-Unit is going to be a RAID-5 and the four together
are going to be a RAID-0, which is to be mounted as "/data" on
all four cluster-servers, so all applications have access to the
same data (web pages etc.). Is that a good idea?

Any help, either through the list or by email is greatly appreciated
