true, but you could use it to failover the mysql as well.

it just checks if the master host is alive, if not it will take over the virtual ip.

you can configure if the master gets back the vip when it comes back up or not.

you can have a look at heartbeat and then namely the auto_failback option in combination with a virtual ip?
