we haven't found the limit yet (no-one has enough machines). The load on a VS-DR
director is light - it's really only forwarding.

I'm running 6 realservers with a 75MHz director in a test setup. Load average is
very light (<0.2) on the director, while the realservers are
running at loadaverage of 5-6

you can run with 1NIC on each machine. see HOWTO

I agree with the description of the current HOWTO :-) It was better than the one
before and it will get better in the next iteration. 
Next alternative is the LVS webpage.

lvs-gui configures the installed code.
