What about the real servers, may be they don't notice the
failover and use the old box as default gateway? I'm not sure in the
details, though.

The LVS box does not detect any replies from the real servers.

Are you sure for the RS side? You can detect the requests by
tcpdump-ing the internal interfaces in all directors.
