Compiling kernel with hidden patch

I'm trying to compile a kernel with the hidden patch and it dies just 
like this:
root@lb1:/usr/src/linux# make menuconfig
Makefile:38: /Rules.make: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target `/Rules.make'.  Stop.

It is a stock 2.4.6 kernel with XFS and ipvsadm patches.  Before I 
applied the hidden-2.4.5-1.diff patch from Julian's page, all makes 
worked fine.  After I applied it, I got the above message.
Any ideas?
Is there a better 'hidden' patch?
