Yep, I was able to successfully setup Tun accepting packets via a VIP on
the director ("original standard" configuration). However, when I attempt
to use Fwmarks, without the VIP on the Director, the packets don't get
marked.

That's what it's supposed to do. I can't remember offhand what examples
are in there.

Should still work. You're doing two things at once, setting up with fwmark
and then Tun. You could try with DR first to check, and with just
accepting packets via a VIP rather than the fwmark.
