I've also been interested in content replication issues and have participated in this type of discussion. Just to make sure I've not missed something in the HOWTO, is the summary... OSS distributed filesystems exist, but they're either dead or aren't mature/production-ready. For high performance, enterprise-class shared storage, one must invest in something like a Netapp filer, a FC SAN, or an AFS infrastructure? ...?
