Correct. They have to talk to each other over their real IP address. You
don't say but I assume you are using LVS-DR.

Each real server needs a real (private) IP and a VIP.

The VIP is masked at 255.255.255.255 so cannot be accessed directly,
only the LVS director can respond to the VIP address or it won't work.
