Just a small correction, CARP was written by open source oriented people, specifically the OpenBSD team. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Address_Redundancy_Protocol For Mr. Egefelt, I think its best to have separate redundant firewalls using CARP, and then a load balancer behind that.
