Accessing real servers through VIP from the load balancer?

Hi.

This might have got answered before but, I'm having trouble accessing the 
VIP from the machine itself to get load balanced. The settings are like 
this.
load balancer (eth0 - 192.168.0.1, vip - 192.168.0.20)
 |                                     |
real server 1             real server 2

The vip 192.168.0.20 is set to distribute some protocols toward the real 
servers behind it.
If accessed from some other machine than the load balancer in the LAN, it 
works, but from the balancer itself, it does not get distributed but just 
tries to access its own 192.168.0.20's ports.
How can i make this to work?
