Thx for your help Graeme, I also changed the negotiate type to connect, that
seemed to resolve the load balancer placing the server in quiescent mode.

Try running ldirectord in debug mode (--debug or -d command line switch)
and see what it tells you.
Also, check the webserver logs on the realserver.
