cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward  

I have a suspicion that setting FORWARD_IPV4 in /etc/sysconfig/network
doesn't work on RH 6.2.

If this is the case you can set this proc value such that it will
be set on reboot by editing /etc/sysctl.conf. To make this
change take effect immediately run sysctl -p.
