sorry "compile"

if rsync is the one that is doing the ident call, then you need
to run it outside of identd. Services like regular telnet 
run under inetd can be  started under wrappers (eg tcpd).

You rsync presumably is not being started by inetd, but is coupled
to identd some other way. Presumably this happened at compile time
- maybe it's an option for configure.
