I would recommend a mail proxy setup such as Obtuse SMTPD (this is what I
use).  The software is available at this URL and is free -
http://www.obtuse.com/smtpd.html.

This setup also shelters the rather evil and bloated exchange server from
external access.  Additionally obtuse's smtpd supports _very_ nice & simple
controls to filter out spam using regex & wrapper-like functionality.
