hmm, it seems "define" means "put an IP onto the NIC".

Other than the SIOCIFNETMASK notice, do you get any other errors.
The script will give error messages for anything that goes wrong.

When you run the script with

director:# sh -x lvs.dr > lvs.dr.out 2>&1

and look at the output, do you get any hints as to the problem?
