Not to get into a war or debate, but I'm not sure I understand.

Since I'm using DR, the director is unable to talk to the VIP on the
real server. So i have to monitor it by binding the service i'm
balancing to not only the VIP:port but also a unique port - per
service on the real server.

That's what the document talks about - and I already do that.

What I'd like eliminate that if possible. I don't think I can use mon
because not only is my vrrp config in keepalived.conf - but also my
virtual servers configuration.

So am I misunderstanding something? I'm dense at times so please forgive me..
