Just out of curiosity: Has anyone here considered/tried nbd 
(or even enbd <http://www.it.uc3m.es/~ptb/nbd/>)
with raid over it for distributing their filesystems?

It looks like a clever approach to me, WRT lvs. But I'm not
able to really test that right now, so if anyone's interested...
