Connection initiation from the real servers isn't for looping back to
the LVS cluster.  It's for DNS lookups, database connection, pulling
content from other sites (e.g. RSS feeds), etc.

Yes.  We have persistence set to 5 minutes, and testing shows this to be
upheld by the director.  A client switches real servers right around the
5 minute mark, exactly as it should.
